ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet

The AirSense 10 AutoSet is the auto-adjusting machine ResMed launched in the US and Australia in August 2014, with a built-in HumidAir heated humidifier, a dial and button control panel, and a 4 to 20 cm H2O range. This row also covers the AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her (adds a mode for women with mild to moderate OSA) and the fixed-pressure AirSense 10 Elite and AirSense 10 CPAP, which share the same body, tub and menus. It was succeeded by the AirSense 11 in 2021, but ResMed still lists the AirSense 10 on its US site and many people are still using one.

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Physical dial and buttons work without a touch screen, which some people find easier in the dark
  • Ramp Auto keeps pressure low until the machine detects you are asleep
  • Same 4 to 20 cm H2O range and AutoSet algorithm family as the AirSense 11
  • SD card slot is ready to use on most units, so you can view detailed data in OSCAR
  • Widely used, so ClimateLineAir tubing, tubs and filters for it are easy to find
  • Power supply accepts 100 to 240 V for travel

Trade-offs

  • Heavier and taller than the AirSense 11 (44 oz and 4.57 in versus about 40 oz and 3.72 in)
  • 90W power supply draws more than the AirSense 11's 65W unit, so battery run time is shorter
  • myAir does not work with the Card-to-Cloud model ResMed now sells direct, per ResMed's US page
  • Older US units use a CDMA cellular module, so wireless reporting depends on that network still being available where you live
  • Pressure Relief and SmartStart only appear if your care provider has enabled them
  • Not compatible with Air11 parts such as ClimateLineAir 11 tubing or HumidAir 11 tubs

Comfort settings you can change

These are in the patient menu. Your prescribed pressure and therapy mode are set by your clinician and are not covered here.

Cleaning and care

  1. Every day: empty the tub

Let the tub cool for ten minutes after use. Press it gently at top and bottom and pull it out, open it and discard the leftover water.

Wipe it with a clean disposable cloth, let it dry out of direct sunlight, and refill with fresh distilled water at bedtime.

  2. Every week: wash the tub and tubing

Unplug the machine. Wash the water tub and air tubing in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and let them dry out of direct sunlight and heat. Wipe the outside of the machine with a dry cloth.

  3. Dishwasher

The US AirSense 10 guide says not to wash the tub or tubing in a dishwasher or washing machine. A later European edition allows the tub on a delicate or glassware cycle on the top shelf, but never the tubing. If you are unsure which applies to your tub, hand wash it.

  4. What not to use

Do not use bleach, chlorine, alcohol, aromatic-based solutions, moisturizing or antibacterial soaps or scented oils on the machine, tub or tubing. They can damage parts and affect the humidifier.

  5. Mineral deposits

Remove white powder in the tub with 1 part household vinegar to 10 parts water, then rinse well. Replace the tub if it leaks, cracks, turns cloudy or pitted, or if its seal is cracked or torn.

  6. Air filter

Replace the filter at least every six months, sooner if it has holes or is blocked with dirt or dust. It is not washable.

Open the filter cover, remove the old filter, place the new one on the cover and close it. Keep a filter fitted at all times.

  7. Tub seal and lid

If the tub seal pops out, place it into the lid and press along all edges until it is firmly in place. If the lid comes off, put one side into the pivot hole and slide the other side down until it clicks.

Replacement parts

Tubing
ClimateLineAir heated tubing (ResMed part 37296, 6 ft 6 in), SlimLine (6 ft, 15 mm) or Standard (6 ft 6 in, 19 mm) non-heated tubing. ClimateLineAir 11 does not fit the AirSense 10.
Filters
Air10 standard (non-woven polyester) or hypoallergenic disposable filters. Not washable or reusable.
Water chamber
HumidAir standard water tub or cleanable water tub, 380 mL to the maximum line. Air10 tubs do not fit the AirSense 11.
Replacement notes
ResMed's guide says to replace the air filter at least every six months and gives a design life of 6 months for the standard tub and tubing and 2.5 years for the cleanable tub. Medicare's PAP policy (LCD L33718) lists these usual maximum quantities: non-heated tubing (A7037) or heated tubing (A4604) 1 per 3 months, disposable filters (A7038) 2 per month, non-disposable filters (A7039) 1 per 6 months, and the humidifier water chamber (A7046) 1 per 6 months. These are the most Medicare usually pays for, not a rule that parts last that long; private insurers set their own schedules, so check with your plan and your equipment supplier.

Troubleshooting

Air leaking around the mask

Refit the mask using its guide and run Mask Fit in My Options until you get a Good result. If you cannot, talk to your supplier about another size or style.

Dry or blocked nose

Turn Humidity Level up in My Options, or use ClimateLineAir heated tubing with Climate Control. Saline spray may help; a nose that stays blocked is worth raising with your doctor.

Water droplets in the mask or tubing

Turn Humidity Level down, raise Tube Temp if you have ClimateLineAir, and keep the machine lower than your head. A tubing cover helps in a cold room.

Very dry mouth

Air is likely escaping through your mouth. ResMed suggests raising humidity and using a chin strap or a full face mask.

Pressure feels too high when you lie down

Ramp may be off. Turn on Ramp Time in My Options, or try Auto. Do not change your prescribed pressure yourself; if it still feels wrong, call your clinician.

Pressure feels too low at the start

Ramp may still be running. Wait for it to build, or turn Ramp Time off. Ask your clinician if it feels too low all night.

Machine still blows air after you stop

That is the cool-down: it blows a little air to stop condensation in the tubing and stops by itself after 20 minutes.

Screen and buttons are flashing

A software upgrade is in progress. It takes about 10 minutes; leave it plugged in.

Screen is black

The backlight turns off on its own; press Home or the dial. If it stays dark, check the power supply is connected and the plug is fully in. Power save mode is entered by holding Start/Stop for three seconds; press it once to wake.

Data not reaching your care provider

Keep the machine plugged in on the nightstand, not on the floor or in a drawer, and check Airplane Mode is off. If there is no wireless connection, your provider may ask you to send the SD card, which also holds your data.

Travel and power

ResMed states the AirSense 10 meets FAA requirements for all phases of air travel, and it can go in the cabin as a medical device that does not count toward your carry-on limit; compliance letters can be printed from resmed.com. Empty the tub and pack it separately in the travel bag. On the plane, the empty tub must be inserted for the machine to run, and you should turn on Airplane Mode in My Options. Never use it with water in the tub during the flight.

The 90W power supply handles 100 to 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz, so abroad you need the right power cord or plug adapter, not a converter. ResMed lists an Air10 DC/DC converter for vehicle or battery DC power. ResMed's guide says that if you use an external battery you should set Humidity Level to Off to make the battery last longer; check with the battery maker that it is rated for the AirSense 10.

Your sleep data

The AirSense 10 shows a Sleep Report after every session with usage hours, mask seal, humidifier status and, if your provider turns it on, events per hour. Cellular units send data to your care provider after therapy stops, and myAir shows a nightly score for those units. ResMed says myAir is not currently available with the Card-to-Cloud models, which send data only via the SD card.

Most AirSense 10 machines come with the SD card already inserted, and it keeps recording whether or not the cellular link works. Do not pull it while the SD light is flashing. If you copy the card's data to a computer, the free OSCAR program can show breath-by-breath graphs from ResMed SD cards. Lock-switch problems show up as a Read only card message. Use OSCAR to understand your nights and bring questions to your clinician; do not change prescribed settings based on it.

Supplies that can help

Distilled water for CPAP humidifiers

Distilled water is what most CPAP humidifier chambers are meant to be filled with, because it leaves little or no mineral scale behind.

Replacement CPAP air filters

The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.

Heated CPAP tubing

Tubing with a built-in heating wire that keeps humidified air warm all the way to the mask, which is the main fix for rainout (water droplets …

Standard (unheated) CPAP tubing

The plain hose between the machine and the mask; it wears out and should be replaced on a regular schedule.

Humidifier water chamber (tub)

The removable water tank of a CPAP humidifier; it wears and needs replacing, especially if it cracks, clouds or leaks.

CPAP chinstrap

A soft strap that supports the jaw to help keep the mouth closed, used mainly with nasal and nasal pillow masks to reduce mouth leaks.

CPAP tubing cover

A fabric sleeve that slips over CPAP tubing to insulate it, reduce condensation and make the hose feel softer against your skin.

CPAP DC power cord or converter

A cord or converter that runs a CPAP from a 12 V or 24 V DC source, such as a car outlet, RV or deep cycle …

CPAP battery

A battery pack that runs a CPAP machine without mains power, for camping, power outages or long flights.

CPAP travel case

A padded bag that protects the machine, mask, tubing and power supply in transit.

Mild unscented soap for CPAP cleaning

Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the ResMed AirSense 10 discontinued?

The AirSense 11 replaced it as ResMed's flagship in 2021, but as of October 2026 ResMed's US site still lists the AirSense 10. It says the only version available for direct purchase is the AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud, which records to the SD card rather than sending data over cellular.

What is the difference between AirSense 10 AutoSet, Elite and CPAP?

The AutoSet and AutoSet for Her adjust pressure through the night within a prescribed range; For Her adds a mode for women with mild to moderate OSA. The Elite and CPAP models deliver one fixed pressure. All four share the same body, tub and 4 to 20 cm H2O range.

What does Error 004 mean on an AirSense 10?

ResMed lists four causes: the machine got too hot, the air filter is blocked, the tubing is blocked, or there is water in the tubing. Fix the cause, then unplug the power supply and plug it back in. Any other 0XX error that will not clear needs your care provider.

Why does my AirSense 10 keep blowing air after I turn it off?

It is cooling down. The machine blows a small amount of air to keep condensation out of the tubing and stops by itself after 20 minutes.

Does myAir work with the AirSense 10?

It works with AirSense 10 machines that have the built-in cellular connection. ResMed says myAir is not currently available with the Card-to-Cloud models, so on those you would rely on the Sleep Report and the SD card.

Can I buy a used AirSense 10?

ResMed's guide notes that US federal law restricts it to sale by or on the order of a physician, so expect to need a prescription. If you do buy used, replace the tubing, filter and tub, and have your clinician set your prescribed pressure rather than keeping the previous owner's settings.
