Tubing

Heated CPAP tubing

Tubing with a built-in heating wire that keeps humidified air warm all the way to the mask, which is the main fix for rainout (water droplets in the hose and mask).

Why it helps

When warm, humid air from the humidifier cools as it travels through a plain hose in a cool bedroom, water condenses inside the tube and can spray into the mask. Heated tubing keeps the air temperature up along the whole length, so you can run a comfortable humidity level without rainout. ResMed describes its ClimateLineAir tubes as helping to virtually eliminate rainout. On the AirSense 11, using ClimateLineAir 11 with the humidifier tub enables the Climate Control feature, which manages tube temperature and humidity automatically.

How to choose

Heated tubing is machine specific, because the tube plugs into the machine for power and temperature sensing. ResMed's ClimateLineAir is listed as compatible with AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 machines, while ClimateLineAir 11 is listed for AirSense 11 and AirCurve 11. The two are not interchangeable, and the AirSense 11 guide says ClimateLineAir 11 is the only heated tubing compatible with that machine. ResMed's shop lists both tubes at 6.5 ft with 22 mm cuffs and a 15 mm inner diameter, and marks them as prescription required. For other brands, buy the heated tube listed for your exact model. Medicare codes heated tubing as A4604, with a usual maximum of 1 per 3 months.

Cautions

Do not cut, kink or put weight on a heated tube, and keep the electrical connector dry when cleaning. Replace it if it has holes, tears or cracks, or if the machine reports a tube fault.
