ResMed AirCurve 11 VAuto
The AirCurve 11 VAuto is ResMed's current auto-adjusting bilevel machine, announced for the US on February 12, 2024. It gives a higher pressure when you breathe in and a lower one when you breathe out, with the VAuto algorithm adjusting both within limits your doctor sets (up to 25 cm H2O). It uses the AirSense 11 body, touch screen, HumidAir 11 humidifier and myAir app, and the same user guide also covers the fixed bilevel AirCurve 11 S and the AirCurve 11 ASV.

Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Lower pressure on the out-breath can help if you struggle to exhale against CPAP, which is the reason ResMed gives for bilevel therapy
- About 5.45 in deep and 3.72 in tall, the same compact body as the AirSense 11
- Works with myAir, unlike AirCurve 10 Card-to-Cloud units
- Pressure up to 25 cm H2O in bilevel modes, higher than the 20 cm H2O ceiling of AirSense machines
- Cleanable tub option accepts drinking-quality water; the tub and outlet connector are dishwasher safe
- Device Diagnostic can check the machine daily, weekly or every 2 weeks
Trade-offs
- No Auto ramp setting: Ramp Time is Off or 5 to 45 minutes only
- Ramp start pressure and all pressures are clinician settings, so you cannot fine-tune them from the patient menu
- Only ClimateLineAir 11 heated tubing and HumidAir 11 tubs fit; AirCurve 10 parts do not
- The standard tub needs distilled water only
- Will not run without the tub or side cover in place
- Typical power draw of about 65 W is higher than the AirSense 11, which shortens battery run time
Comfort settings you can change
These are in the patient menu. Your prescribed pressure and therapy mode are set by your clinician and are not covered here.
Ramp Time
Starts at a lower pressure and rises to your prescribed pressures over the set time.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Ramp Time, choose Off or 5 to 45 minutes, then tap OK. The ramp start pressure is a clinician setting; if the start feels too low, ask your provider.
Humidity Level
Sets how much moisture the humidifier adds: up for a dry nose or mouth, down for water in the mask.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, swipe to Humidity Level, tap Off or 1 to 8, then tap OK.
Climate Control
With ClimateLineAir 11 and the tub attached, Auto holds about 85% relative humidity and guards against rainout; Manual lets you set temperature and humidity yourself.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Climate Control, choose Auto or Manual, then tap OK.
Tube Temperature
Auto is 80 F (27 C); you can choose 60 to 86 F (16 to 30 C) or Off. Raising it is the first fix for rainout.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Tube Temp, tap the setting, then tap OK.
Pressure Relief (EPR)
Eases breathing out in CPAP mode. In VAuto mode the gap between inhale and exhale pressure is your prescribed pressure support instead.
How to change it: If your care professional has enabled it and your mode supports it, tap MY OPTIONS, tap Pressure Relief and choose from the options shown. If you do not see it, that is set on the clinician side.
Mask
Selects the type of mask you use with the machine.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Mask, select your mask type, then tap OK.
Tube
Selects the type of tubing attached.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Tube, select your tubing, then tap OK.
SmartStart and SmartStop
Starts therapy when you breathe into the mask and stops it a few seconds after you take it off.
How to change it: If enabled by your care professional, tap MY OPTIONS and tap SmartStart or SmartStop to switch it on or off. SmartStop may not work with a conduit mask.
Run Warmup
Heats the water before you start so the air is not cold or dry.
How to change it: Tap MORE on the Home screen, then tap Run Warmup.
Airplane Mode
Turns off wireless transmission for flights.
How to change it: Tap MORE, swipe to Airplane Mode and tap it to switch on or off.
Cleaning and care
Every day: empty and wipe the tub
Let the tub cool for at least 10 minutes, or until the cool-down mode has finished. Remove it, pour out leftover water, wipe it with a clean disposable cloth and let it air dry out of direct sunlight. Refill before bed with the right water for your tub.
Every week: wash tub, tubing and outlet connector
Unplug the machine. Wash the tubing in warm water with mild dishwashing liquid. Wash the tub and outlet connector the same way or in 1 part vinegar to 9 parts water at room temperature.
Keep water below 131 F (55 C), rinse well, dry out of direct sunlight, and wipe the machine's outside with a dry cloth.
Outlet connector
With the tub out, press the outlet connector's clip firmly and pull it out through the socket at the back. Refit it with the seal pointing left and the clip pointing forward.
Dishwasher
The tub and outlet connector may be washed in a dishwasher. The tubing must not go in a dishwasher or washing machine.
What not to use
Do not use bleach, chlorine, aromatic-based solutions, moisturizing or antibacterial soaps or scented oils. ResMed warns smoke, ozone and other gases may damage the machine and are not covered by the warranty.
Air filter
Replace the filter every six months, or sooner if it has holes or is clogged. It is not washable. Open the filter cover, swap the filter and close the cover; never run without both fitted.
Inspect
Replace the tub if it leaks, cracks, clouds or pits, or its seal tears; remove white deposits with 1 part vinegar to 9 parts water. Replace tubing with holes, tears or cracks.
Replacement parts
- Tubing
- ClimateLineAir 11 heated tubing (39102) or SlimLine tubing (36810).
- Filters
- Air11 standard filter (ResMed 39300 single, 39301 2-pack, 39302 12-pack) or hypoallergenic (39304, 39305, 39306). Not washable.
- Water chamber
- HumidAir 11 Standard tub (39100, distilled water) or HumidAir 11 Cleanable tub (39101, drinking-quality water); Air11 side cover (39226) for use without humidification.
- Replacement notes
- ResMed gives a design life of 6 months for the standard tub and tubing and 2.5 years for the cleanable tub, and says to replace the filter every six months. Medicare's PAP policy (LCD L33718) lists these usual maximum quantities: non-heated tubing (A7037) or heated tubing (A4604) 1 per 3 months, disposable filters (A7038) 2 per month, non-disposable filters (A7039) 1 per 6 months, and the humidifier water chamber (A7046) 1 per 6 months. These are the most Medicare usually pays for, not a rule that parts last that long; private insurers set their own schedules, so check with your plan and your equipment supplier.
Troubleshooting
Air leaking around the mask
Refit the mask, then run Mask Fit from the MORE menu or watch the Mask Fit video in myAir. Higher bilevel pressures make a good fit more important.
Too much air when you first lie down
Ramp may be off. Turn on Ramp Time in MY OPTIONS.
Not enough air at the start
Ramp may still be running; wait for pressure to build or turn Ramp Time off. If the start feels too low every night, ask your clinician about the ramp start pressure.
Water in the mask or tubing
Lower Humidity Level and raise Tube Temperature if you use ClimateLineAir 11. Keep the machine lower than your head.
Dry nose or mouth
Raise Humidity Level or use Climate Control Auto. A dry mouth often means mouth leak; ResMed suggests a chin strap or full face mask.
Still blowing air after you stop
Normal cool-down to avoid condensation; it stops by itself after 30 minutes.
Not getting enough air, or oxygen flow seems disrupted
Check the tubing for blockages, then remove and reassemble the tub correctly. If you use supplemental oxygen and this keeps happening, contact your care provider.
SmartStart does not start therapy
Take a deep breath in and out through the mask before breathing normally, or press the Start Therapy/Standby button. Fix any big leak or loose tubing first.
Data not sent or prescription not applied
Keep it plugged in where there is cellular signal, not on the floor or in a drawer, and turn off Airplane Mode. If data transfer is not enabled, your care provider needs to set it up.
Bloating or swallowing air
Note when it happens and tell your clinician; it is a listed side effect of PAP therapy, and pressure changes are their decision. Do not adjust pressures yourself.
Travel and power
ResMed states the AirCurve 11 meets FAA requirements for all phases of air travel, and it can go in the cabin as a medical device that does not count toward your carry-on limit; print a compliance letter from resmed.com. Empty the tub and pack it separately; on the plane, the empty tub or side cover must be in place to run, Airplane Mode should be on when crew ask, and the tub must never hold water in transit.
The 90W power supply takes 100 to 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz. For DC power ResMed lists the Air11 DC/DC converter (39231). Bilevel pressures plus heated humidification use more power than CPAP, so if you plan to use a battery, confirm with the battery maker that it supports the AirCurve 11 and expect better run time with humidity off. Cellular data may not transmit outside the country of purchase.
Your sleep data
MY SLEEP VIEW shows last night's hours, events per hour and mask seal, and myAir adds a nightly score and coaching; ResMed says myAir now supports bilevel users on AirCurve 11. Cellular data goes to your care provider after each session when the machine is plugged in and not in Airplane Mode.
Like the AirSense 11, the AirCurve 11 SD card slot sits behind a removable cover, and the guide says to remove the cover and insert a card to record your sleep data on it. Do not remove the card while its light is flashing. The free OSCAR program reads ResMed SD card data and its release notes mention ResMed 11 series machines. Bilevel data is more complex to read than CPAP data, so share anything that worries you with your clinician rather than changing settings.
Supplies that can help
Distilled water is what most CPAP humidifier chambers are meant to be filled with, because it leaves little or no mineral scale behind.
The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.
Tubing with a built-in heating wire that keeps humidified air warm all the way to the mask, which is the main fix for rainout (water droplets …
The plain hose between the machine and the mask; it wears out and should be replaced on a regular schedule.
The removable water tank of a CPAP humidifier; it wears and needs replacing, especially if it cracks, clouds or leaks.
A soft strap that supports the jaw to help keep the mouth closed, used mainly with nasal and nasal pillow masks to reduce mouth leaks.
A fabric sleeve that slips over CPAP tubing to insulate it, reduce condensation and make the hose feel softer against your skin.
A cord or converter that runs a CPAP from a 12 V or 24 V DC source, such as a car outlet, RV or deep cycle …
A battery pack that runs a CPAP machine without mains power, for camping, power outages or long flights.
Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between AirCurve 11 VAuto and AirSense 11 AutoSet?
The AirSense 11 AutoSet delivers one auto-adjusting pressure up to 20 cm H2O, with EPR for a slight drop when you exhale. The AirCurve 11 VAuto is a bilevel machine with separate inhale and exhale pressures, pressure support up to 10 cm H2O and a ceiling of 25 cm H2O. Which one you need is your doctor's call.
Does the AirCurve 11 VAuto have AutoRamp?
No. ResMed's AirCurve 11 guide lists Ramp Time as Off or 5 to 45 minutes, with no Auto option. The ramp start pressure is set by your clinician.
Can I use AirCurve 10 tubing or tubs on the AirCurve 11?
No. The AirCurve 11 uses HumidAir 11 tubs and, for heated tubing, ClimateLineAir 11. SlimLine tubing (36810) is listed for the Air11 platform.
What is the AirCurve 11 S?
It is the fixed bilevel model in the same AirCurve 11 guide: it delivers set IPAP and EPAP pressures (IPAP 4 to 25, EPAP 3 to 25 cm H2O) instead of adjusting automatically. It shares the same body, humidifier and menus.
Why does my AirCurve 11 keep blowing air after I stop?
It is cooling down to keep condensation out of the tubing. ResMed says it stops on its own after 30 minutes.
