Editorial Standards

CPAP information is health information, so we hold it to these rules:

  • Primary sources first. Machine settings, error messages and cleaning steps come from the manufacturer's own user guides and support pages. Safety facts come from the FDA. Coverage rules come from CMS and the Medicare DME contractors. Clinical facts come from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the NIH and peer reviewed research. Each page lists the sources it was built from.
  • Your prescription stays with your clinician. We explain what pressure, EPR, Flex and other therapy settings do, but we never give instructions for changing prescribed settings or for reaching clinician menus. Comfort settings that the manufacturer puts in the patient menu (ramp, humidity, tube temperature, mask type) are explained step by step.
  • Clear "see your doctor" lines. Troubleshooting pages say when a symptom needs medical attention rather than a new cushion.
  • No invented reviews, ratings or testing. We have not hands-on tested the products listed here and we do not publish star ratings, testimonials or "our pick" claims we cannot support. Pros and cons describe facts about a product's design and specifications.
  • Money never edits. Affiliate relationships and advertising never decide what a page recommends. Many fixes we describe cost nothing.
  • Dates on anything that changes. Recalls, coverage rules and product availability change. Pages state when information was current, and we review safety and recall pages first.
  • Corrections. If you find an error, contact us. We verify it against the source and fix it.

Still not sleeping well on CPAP?

Most problems come down to the mask, the humidity or a leak. Work through the fixes, starting with the easiest.
