ResMed · Auto CPAP (APAP)
ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet
The AirSense 11 AutoSet is ResMed's current auto-adjusting machine, launched first in the US in August 2021, with a touch screen, a built-in heated humidifier and the AutoSet for Her mode. The same row covers the AirSense 11 CPAP and AirSense 11 Elite, which run one fixed pressure set by your doctor. Both work from 4 to 20 cm H2O, connect to the myAir app over Bluetooth, and send data to your care provider over a built-in cellular modem.

Key features
- AutoSet algorithm adjusts pressure through the night within the range your doctor sets
- AutoSet for Her mode on the AutoSet model
- Ramp Time Off, 5 to 45 minutes in 5-minute steps, or Auto (AutoRamp)
- Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR) levels 1 to 3 cm H2O when enabled by your care provider
- SmartStart and SmartStop when enabled by your care provider
- Climate Control Auto aims for 85% relative humidity with an 80 F (27 C) tube temperature when ClimateLineAir 11 and the HumidAir 11 tub are attached
- Mask Fit check under MORE (good seal means leak under 24 L/min, per the 2023 guide)
- myAir app pairing over Bluetooth, Personal Therapy Assistant and Care Check-In
- Over-the-air software updates when connected
- Meets FAA requirements for use on aircraft; Airplane Mode turns off wireless
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Lighter and lower-profile than the AirSense 10 (about 40 oz versus 44 oz, 3.72 in tall versus 4.57 in), so it is easier to pack
- 65W power supply draws less than the AirSense 10's 90W unit (typical 56.1 W per the guide), which helps if you run it from a battery
- Touch screen menus are labeled in plain words (MY OPTIONS, MY SLEEP VIEW, MORE) instead of a dial
- Bluetooth link to myAir works without the cellular network, so the app can still guide setup
- Cleanable tub option can be filled with drinking-quality tap water; the humidifier tub and outlet connector are dishwasher safe per the guide
- Ramp Auto starts pressure low and rises after the machine detects you have fallen asleep
Trade-offs
- The standard HumidAir 11 tub must be filled with distilled water only
- The machine will not run without either the humidifier tub or the side cover inserted
- Only ClimateLineAir 11 heated tubing works for heated tubing; AirSense 10 ClimateLineAir tubes are not listed as compatible
- An SD card is not included with every unit, so you may need to get one before you can read detailed data at home
- Pressure Relief, SmartStart and SmartStop only appear if your care provider has enabled them
- Prescription settings may need to arrive wirelessly, so a new machine sent to your home may not be ready until it has a cellular connection
Comfort settings you can change
These are in the patient menu. Your prescribed pressure and therapy mode are set by your clinician and are not covered here.
Ramp Time
Starts you at a low pressure and raises it to your prescribed pressure over the ramp period, so falling asleep feels easier. Auto (AutoRamp) holds the low pressure until the machine detects you are asleep.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS on the Home screen, tap Ramp Time, tap Off, a time from 5 to 45 minutes or Auto, then tap OK.
Pressure Relief (EPR)
Lowers the pressure a little each time you breathe out (level 1, 2 or 3 cm H2O, never below 4 cm H2O) so exhaling against the air feels easier.
How to change it: If your care provider has enabled it, tap MY OPTIONS, then Pressure Relief, and choose from the options shown, then tap OK. If it is not in the list, ask your care provider; it is enabled on their side.
Humidity Level
Sets how much moisture the heated humidifier adds. Turn it up for a dry nose or mouth, down if you get water in the mask.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, swipe to Humidity Level, tap the level you want (Off or 1 to 8), then tap OK. With Climate Control on Auto, humidity is managed for you.
Climate Control
With ClimateLineAir 11 heated tubing and the water tub attached, Auto keeps the air at about 85% relative humidity and protects against rainout. Manual lets you set tube temperature and humidity separately, without guaranteed rainout protection.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Climate Control, choose Auto or Manual, then tap OK.
Tube Temperature
Sets the heated tube's temperature. Auto is 80 F (27 C); you can pick 60 to 86 F (16 to 30 C) or Off. Raising it is the first fix for droplets in the tube.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Tube Temp, tap the setting you want, then tap OK. Auto is only available when Climate Control is set to Auto.
Mask
Tells the machine which type of mask you use so it can account for it.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Mask, select your mask type, then tap OK. ResMed notes not all functions are available in all regions.
Tube
Tells the machine which type of non-heated tubing is attached.
How to change it: Tap MY OPTIONS, tap Tube, select the tubing you use, then tap OK.
SmartStart and SmartStop
SmartStart begins therapy when you breathe into the mask; SmartStop ends it a few seconds after you take the mask off.
How to change it: If enabled by your care provider, tap MY OPTIONS, tap SmartStart or SmartStop to switch it on or off. ResMed says SmartStop may not work with a nasal pillows mask under 7 cm H2O or with a conduit mask, and should be turned off in those cases.
Run Warmup
Pre-heats the water in the tub before you start, so the first breaths are not cold or dry.
How to change it: Tap MORE on the Home screen, then tap Run Warmup.
Airplane Mode
Turns off wireless transmission for flights. Data will not send to your care provider while it is on.
How to change it: Tap MORE, swipe to Airplane Mode and tap it to switch on or off.
Cleaning and care
Every day: empty and wipe the tub
Let the tub cool for at least 10 minutes after use. Press the tub gently at top and bottom, pull it out, open it and pour out leftover water.
Wipe it thoroughly with a clean disposable cloth and let it air dry out of direct sunlight. Refill with distilled water (Standard tub) or drinking-quality water (Cleanable tub) before bed.
Every week: wash the tub, tubing and outlet connector
Unplug the machine first. Wash the air tubing in warm water with a mild dishwashing liquid. Wash the water tub and the outlet connector either the same way or in 1 part vinegar to 9 parts water at room temperature.
Keep the water below 131 F (55 C). Rinse everything well and let it dry out of direct sunlight or heat, then wipe the outside of the machine with a dry cloth.
Removing the outlet connector
The AirSense 11 has a removable outlet connector inside the tub bay. With the tub out, press its clip firmly and pull it out through the socket at the back.
To refit it, hold it with the seal pointing left and the clip pointing forward, line it up and push it in until it is seated.
Dishwasher rules
ResMed says the humidifier tub and outlet connector may go in a dishwasher. Do not put the air tubing in a dishwasher or washing machine.
What not to use
Do not use bleach, chlorine, aromatic-based solutions, moisturizing or antibacterial soaps or scented oils on the machine, tub or tubing. Do not add anything to the tub water.
ResMed also warns that smoke, ozone or other gases may damage the device, and that damage from them is not covered by the warranty.
Air filter
Check the air filter regularly and replace it every six months, or sooner if it has holes or looks clogged with dirt or dust. The Air11 filter is not washable or reusable.
Open the filter cover on the back, remove the old filter, place the new one on the cover and close it. Never run the machine without a filter and cover fitted.
Inspect for wear
Replace the tub if it leaks, cracks, turns cloudy or pitted, or its seal is torn. Remove white mineral deposits with 1 part household vinegar to 9 parts water and rinse.
Replace the tubing if it has holes, tears or cracks. ResMed's stated design life is 6 months for the standard tub and air tubing and 2.5 years for the cleanable tub.
Replacement parts
- Tubing
- ClimateLineAir 11 heated tubing (39102) is the only heated tube compatible with AirSense 11. SlimLine tubing (36810) is the non-heated option ResMed lists for the Air11 platform.
- Filters
- Air11 standard filter (ResMed part 39300 single, 39301 2-pack, 39302 12-pack) or Air11 hypoallergenic filter (39304 single, 39305 2-pack, 39306 12-pack). Not washable or reusable.
- Water chamber
- HumidAir 11 Standard tub (39100, distilled water only) or HumidAir 11 Cleanable tub (39101, drinking-quality water). Capacity 380 mL. These are the only tubs that fit the AirSense 11. An Air11 side cover (39226) replaces the tub when you run without humidification.
- Replacement notes
- ResMed's guide says to replace the air filter every six months or sooner if dirty, and gives a design life of 6 months for the standard tub and air tubing. Medicare's PAP policy (LCD L33718) lists these usual maximum quantities: non-heated tubing (A7037) or heated tubing (A4604) 1 per 3 months, disposable filters (A7038) 2 per month, non-disposable filters (A7039) 1 per 6 months, and the humidifier water chamber (A7046) 1 per 6 months. These are the most Medicare usually pays for, not a rule that parts last that long; private insurers set their own schedules, so check with your plan and your equipment supplier.
Troubleshooting
Air leaking around the mask
Refit the mask using its user guide, then run Mask Fit from the MORE menu. The myAir app also has a Mask Fit video. If you cannot get a good seal, talk to your supplier about a different size or style.
Dry or blocked nose
Increase Humidity Level in MY OPTIONS, or use Climate Control Auto with ClimateLineAir 11 heated tubing. Saline spray can help; a nose that stays blocked is worth raising with your doctor.
Water droplets in the mask or tubing (rainout)
Lower Humidity Level, raise Tube Temperature if you have ClimateLineAir 11, and keep the machine lower than your head. A tubing cover can help in a cold bedroom.
Very dry mouth
Air is probably escaping through your mouth. ResMed suggests a chin strap or a full face mask; talk to your supplier about either.
Screen is black
The screen dims and goes black on its own during therapy; tap it to wake it. If it will not wake, check the AC adaptor is connected and the plug is fully in.
Tub or side cover is leaking
Check for damage and reassemble the tub. Make sure the side cover clicks into place. A cracked tub or cover needs replacing through your care provider.
SmartStart does not start therapy
Take a deep breath in and out through the mask before breathing normally, or press the Start therapy/Standby button. A big leak or loose tubing can also stop it triggering.
SmartStop does not stop therapy
SmartStop may not work with a conduit mask, or with a nasal pillows mask at a set pressure under 7 cm H2O. Press the button to stop instead, and ask your care provider about turning SmartStop off.
Data not reaching your care provider, or prescription not applied
Keep the machine plugged in on the nightstand where it has cellular signal, not in a drawer or on the floor. Check Airplane Mode is off. If data transfer is not enabled for your machine, your care provider has to set that up.
Machine will not run on a plane or in a hotel
It needs either the empty tub or the side cover inserted to run. Use the correct power cord for the region; the power supply accepts 100 to 240 V.
Travel and power
ResMed states the AirSense 11 meets FAA requirements for all phases of air travel, and you can carry it on as a medical device that does not count toward your carry-on limit; air travel compliance letters can be printed from resmed.com. Empty the tub before you travel and pack it separately in the travel bag; on the plane the empty tub (or the side cover) must be inserted for the machine to run, and you should switch on Airplane Mode (MORE, then Airplane Mode) when airline staff ask. Never use it with water in the tub while in transit.
The 65W power supply accepts 100 to 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz, so in most countries you only need a plug adapter or the right power cord, not a voltage converter. For DC power, ResMed sells the Air11 DC/DC converter (part 39231). For a battery, check with the battery maker that it supports the AirSense 11, and expect much shorter run time with the humidifier and heated tube on, so many people turn humidity off or use a humidifier-free HME when running on battery. Cellular data may not transmit outside the country of purchase.
Your sleep data
Your AirSense 11 records your therapy and sends it to your care provider over its built-in cellular connection after each session, as long as it stays plugged in and is not in Airplane Mode. MY SLEEP VIEW on the machine shows hours used, events per hour (apneas and hypopneas) and mask seal for the last night, and the free myAir app adds a nightly sleep score and coaching once paired over Bluetooth.
The SD card works differently from the AirSense 10. On the AirSense 11 the slot sits behind a removable cover, an SD card is not supplied with every machine, and the guide says to remove the cover and insert a card to record your sleep data on it. The blue SD light shows when data is being written, so do not pull the card while it is flashing. If you want detailed breath-by-breath graphs, the free OSCAR program reads ResMed SD card data, and its release notes include fixes specific to the AirSense 11 and other ResMed 11 series machines. OSCAR can only show what is on the card, and it is a viewing tool: talk to your clinician about anything it shows rather than changing your prescription yourself.
Supplies that can help
Distilled water is what most CPAP humidifier chambers are meant to be filled with, because it leaves little or no mineral scale behind.
The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.
Tubing with a built-in heating wire that keeps humidified air warm all the way to the mask, which is the main fix for rainout (water droplets …
The plain hose between the machine and the mask; it wears out and should be replaced on a regular schedule.
The removable water tank of a CPAP humidifier; it wears and needs replacing, especially if it cracks, clouds or leaks.
A soft strap that supports the jaw to help keep the mouth closed, used mainly with nasal and nasal pillow masks to reduce mouth leaks.
A fabric sleeve that slips over CPAP tubing to insulate it, reduce condensation and make the hose feel softer against your skin.
A cord or converter that runs a CPAP from a 12 V or 24 V DC source, such as a car outlet, RV or deep cycle …
A battery pack that runs a CPAP machine without mains power, for camping, power outages or long flights.
A heat and moisture exchanger (HME) that captures warmth and moisture from your breath and returns it on the next breath, used mostly with travel CPAPs …
Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.

Frequently asked questions
Does the AirSense 11 come with an SD card?
Not always. ResMed's guide lists the SD card as not available in all devices, and the slot is behind a removable cover. If you want to view your data in OSCAR, ask your supplier for a card or use a standard SD card, then insert it so the machine can start writing to it.
Can I use my AirSense 10 tubing or water tub on the AirSense 11?
The tub, no: ResMed says the HumidAir 11 Standard and Cleanable tubs are the only tubs used with the AirSense 11. For heated tubing, ClimateLineAir 11 is the only compatible heated tube. Non-heated SlimLine tubing is listed for the Air11 platform.
What is the difference between the AirSense 11 AutoSet and the AirSense 11 CPAP?
The AutoSet adjusts pressure through the night within the range your doctor sets and includes the AutoSet for Her mode. The AirSense 11 CPAP and Elite deliver one fixed pressure set by your doctor. Both share the same body, humidifier, 4 to 20 cm H2O range and touch screen.
Can I use tap water in the AirSense 11?
Only in the HumidAir 11 Cleanable tub, which has a grey thumb grip and is rated for drinking-quality water. The Standard tub, with a white thumb grip, must be filled with distilled water only. Never fill either tub with hot water.
Why does the AirSense 11 say System fault, Error 4?
ResMed lists three causes: the machine got too hot, the air filter is blocked, or there is water in the tubing. Fix the cause, then unplug the AC adaptor and plug it back in to restart. Any other error number that keeps coming back needs your care provider or ResMed.
Can I change my pressure on the AirSense 11?
No. Your pressure range is part of your prescription and is set by your care provider, often over the air. You can change comfort settings such as Ramp Time, humidity and tube temperature in MY OPTIONS; if the pressure feels wrong, call your doctor or sleep clinic.
