CPAP DC power cord or converter

A cord or converter that runs a CPAP from a 12 V or 24 V DC source, such as a car outlet, RV or deep cycle battery.

Why it helps

A DC converter lets you run the machine straight from a vehicle or battery system without an inverter, which wastes power converting DC to AC and back. ResMed's battery guide states that a converter is more efficient than an inverter, and lists the Air10 DC/DC converter (part 37297) for the Air10 series; the AirSense 11 guide lists an Air11 DC/DC converter as a compatible accessory.

How to choose

Use the converter made for your machine model, since output voltage and connectors differ between generations. Check the input voltage it accepts (12 V, 24 V or both) against your vehicle or battery. Size the battery for the draw: ResMed's guide gives current figures at 12 V for each AirSense 10 configuration, and the humidifier and heated tube add the most.

Cautions

Do not leave a vehicle battery powering a CPAP all night unless you have a separate deep cycle battery or a battery protector, or you risk being unable to start the vehicle. Follow the battery maker's instructions on connections and ventilation.

Frequently asked questions

Is a DC cord better than an inverter for CPAP?

Usually yes. ResMed's battery guide says the converter is more efficient than an inverter, so the same battery lasts longer.

Will an AirSense 10 DC converter work on an AirSense 11?

ResMed lists separate Air10 and Air11 DC/DC converters. Buy the one listed for your machine.
