Finding your size
Pillows come in S, M and L, and the all sizes kit includes all three. The manual says to hold the pillows over your nostrils to check the size, and React Health publishes a printable fitting template for this mask. If you cannot stop a leak by changing the angle of the pillows, the manual says you may need a different size.
How to fit it
Attach the headgear
Thread the two side straps of the headgear through the gaps in the side panels and fold them back to secure.
Put it on
Hold the back strap and stretch the headgear around the back of your head. The top strap should sit comfortably on top of your head.
Even out the side straps
Adjust each side strap evenly until the mask sits just under your nose, then reattach the fastening tabs.
Settle the pillows
Move the mask away from your face and place it back so both pillows sit upright and secure in your nostrils.
Connect
Connect the end of the mask's short tube to your machine's air tubing and start therapy.
Common problems and fixes
Air leak at the nostrils
Readjust the angle of the pillows. If the leak will not stop, the manual says you may need a different pillow size.
Nasal irritation
Loosen the straps and check your pillow size. The manual says to stop using the mask and talk to your physician if nasal irritation keeps happening.
Dry mouth
Air escaping through your mouth. A chinstrap is a common fix; ask your clinician about a full face mask if it continues.
Short tube or swivel damage
The short tube assembly cannot be taken apart. Do not pull on the short tube or your machine tubing when removing the mask; lift the headgear off your head instead.
Cleaning and care
After each use, take the mask apart, wash the parts (not the headgear) by gently rubbing them for up to 10 minutes in warm water (about 86 F) with mild, unscented dish soap, clean the vent with a soft brush, rinse with drinking quality water and air dry out of direct sunlight.
Once a week, hand wash the headgear the same way, rinse and air dry. React Health says not to use anything with bleach, chlorine, alcohol, aromatics, moisturizers, antibacterial agents or scented oils, and to keep all parts out of direct sunlight and heat.
How often to replace parts
- Mask
- 1 every 3 months (A7034)
- Cushion
- Up to 2 per month (Medicare A7033), typical guidance; your plan may differ
- Headgear
- 1 every 6 months (A7035)
Supplies that can help
A soft strap that supports the jaw to help keep the mouth closed, used mainly with nasal and nasal pillow masks to reduce mouth leaks.
Salt water spray that moistens and clears the nose, a simple aid for the congestion and dryness some people get on CPAP.
Pre-moistened wipes for a quick daily wipe of the mask cushion, mostly to remove skin oils between proper washes.
Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.
