CPAP mask wipes
Pre-moistened wipes for a quick daily wipe of the mask cushion, mostly to remove skin oils between proper washes.
Why it helps
Skin oil on a silicone cushion makes it slippery, which can make a seal harder to hold and shortens the life of the cushion. A wipe in the morning takes seconds and is easier to keep up with than a full wash when you are tired. It is a convenience between washes, not a replacement for them. The FDA's guidance is that most masks, hoses and humidifier tanks can be cleaned with mild soap and water as described in the owner's manual.
How to choose
Pick wipes sold specifically for CPAP masks, and check your mask's user guide for which cleaning agents it allows. Look for wipes without alcohol, bleach, strong fragrance or moisturizers unless the mask maker says they are fine, since residue on the cushion can irritate skin and affect the seal. Individually wrapped wipes are handy for travel.
Wipes do not clean the inside of the tubing or the humidifier chamber. Keep washing the mask, tubing and chamber on the schedule in your manuals.
Frequently asked questions
Can mask wipes replace washing my CPAP mask?
No. They are for a quick wipe between washes. Manufacturers and the FDA describe washing removable parts with mild soap and water on a regular schedule.
Can I use baby wipes on my CPAP mask?
Many baby wipes contain lotions, fragrance or other additives that can leave residue on silicone. Check your mask's user guide for what it allows, and if in doubt use a CPAP-specific unscented wipe or plain mild soap and water.
