Strengths and trade-offs

  • Fabric touches the skin on both cushion and frame, an option for people who dislike silicone against the face
  • Tube-up design suits side and stomach sleepers
  • No magnets
  • Works with N30i and P30i cushions if you want to switch styles
  • Fabric cushion must be hand washed without a bristle brush and dried thoroughly
  • Fabric parts take longer to dry than silicone
  • Not compatible with AirMini
  • Nasal only, so mouth breathing needs a chinstrap or a different mask

Finding your size

Use ResMed's cushion fitting template to see which box your nose fits into: Small Wide and Large suit wider noses and Medium suits narrower noses. The size is marked on the side of the cushion. For the frame, if it falls back over your head or sits close to your ears, try Small; if it falls forward or sits close to your eyes, try Standard.

How to fit it

  1. Size cushion and frame

Check your nose against the fitting template for Small Wide, Medium or Large, and choose Small or Standard frame using the headband test.

  2. Put it on

Place the cushion under your nose and bring the frame up over your head so the elbow sits on top, then pull the back strap behind your head.

  3. Adjust with the machine running

Lie down in your sleep position and adjust the strap until it is snug but comfortable. ResMed notes a tight fit can cause pressure points and a loose fit can cause leaks and friction.

Common problems and fixes

Cushion feels damp after cleaning

Squeeze the cushion in a towel after rinsing and let it air dry fully out of direct sunlight before use. Washing in the morning gives it the day to dry.

Frame position feels wrong

Swap frame size: Small if it slips back toward your ears, Standard if it sits forward toward your eyes.

Mouth leaks

Try a chinstrap. If mouth breathing continues, ask your clinician about a full face mask.

Cleaning and care

Clean the cushion and vent daily: soak in warm water with a mild liquid detergent, hand wash the cushion only (no bristle brush on the fabric cushion), clean the vent holes with a soft brush, rinse under running water, squeeze the cushion in a towel and air dry out of direct sunlight. Wash the frame, headgear and elbow weekly the same way. ResMed has not validated ozone or UV cleaning products for its masks and says damage from them is not covered by warranty.

How often to replace parts

Mask
1 complete mask every 3 months (Medicare A7034, nasal interface).
Cushion
ResMed's US eShop lists the ComfiSoft cushion replacement interval as every 2 weeks. Medicare typically allows up to 2 nasal cushions per month (A7032).
Headgear
1 every 6 months (Medicare A7035).

Supplies that can help

CPAP chinstrap

A soft strap that supports the jaw to help keep the mouth closed, used mainly with nasal and nasal pillow masks to reduce mouth leaks.

CPAP hose hanger

A simple hook or hanger for drying CPAP tubing vertically after washing, and for keeping it off the floor.

Mild unscented soap for CPAP cleaning

Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.

Can I wash the AirTouch N30i fabric cushion?

Yes, by hand in warm water with mild detergent, without a bristle brush. Squeeze it in a towel and let it air dry fully before use.

Will the AirTouch N30i fit my AirFit N30i frame?

ResMed says the ComfiSoft cushion is interchangeable with the AirFit N30i silicone cushion and the AirFit P30i pillows cushion. The AirTouch N30i frame itself is fabric wrapped.
