ResMed AirTouch N20
The AirFit N20 frame with an UltraSoft memory foam cushion in place of silicone. It is meant for people who get red marks or irritation from silicone, and it uses the same magnetic headgear clips as the N20.
The AirTouch N20 has magnets in the frame and lower headgear clips (field strength up to 400 mT per ResMed). Under ResMed's updated labeling announced December 20, 2023, and the FDA notice of January 18, 2024 (a Class I recall that is a correction, not a product removal), the mask is contraindicated if you, or anyone in close physical contact with you while you use the mask, have active medical implants that interact with magnets (such as pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, neurostimulators, cerebrospinal fluid shunts, and insulin or infusion pumps) or metallic implants or objects containing ferromagnetic material (such as aneurysm clips, embolic coils, stents, valves, electrodes, certain hearing or balance implants, ocular implants and metallic splinters in the eye). Keep the magnets at least 6 inches (150 mm) away from any implant or medical device that may be affected by magnetic interference. If this applies to you or a bed partner, stop using the mask and ask your clinician or mask provider for a mask without magnets.
Usually suits
- Nose breathers who get red marks or skin irritation from silicone cushions
- Current AirFit N20 users who want to try foam without changing frames
Design
- UltraSoft memory foam cushion that wraps around the nose
- Same compact under-the-eye frame as the AirFit N20
- Magnetic lower headgear clips and quick-release elbow
- Extra-soft plush headgear
- Rated for 4 to 30 cm H2O
- Frame also accepts the AirFit N20 silicone cushion
Strengths and trade-offs
- Foam contacts the skin instead of silicone, an option for people with silicone irritation
- Interchangeable with the AirFit N20 silicone cushion on one frame
- Magnetic clips make it quick to take off and refit
- Contains magnets, so it is contraindicated for people with certain implants or a bed partner with one
- Foam cushion cannot be submerged or washed, only wiped, and ResMed recommends replacing it about monthly
- Foam absorbs skin oils, so it wears faster than silicone
- Nasal only, so mouth breathing needs a chinstrap or a different mask
Finding your size
Sizing follows the AirFit N20 cushion, measured by nose width with a straight ruler or ResMed's printable sizing template. ResMed advises choosing the larger size if you fall between two. The foam and silicone cushions fit the same frame, so a supplier can let you compare both in the same size.
How to fit it
Pick the size
Measure your nose width or use the printable template. If you are between two sizes, ResMed suggests the larger one.
Unclip and position
Unclip the lower magnetic clips, hold the foam cushion against your nose and pull the headgear over your head with the upper straps above your ears.
Clip back and settle the foam
Reattach the magnetic clips. Give the foam a moment to warm and conform to your nose before you judge the seal.
Adjust lying down
With the machine running and you lying in your sleep position, adjust the straps evenly until the seal holds. Foam needs only light tension; pulling it tight flattens the foam and can make leaks worse.
Common problems and fixes
Foam cushion looks discolored or feels flattened
That is normal wear. ResMed recommends replacing the foam cushion about once a month, or sooner if it visibly deteriorates.
Cushion got wet
The foam must not be submerged. Let it air dry fully out of direct sunlight before use, and if it stays damp or misshapen, replace it.
Leak at the sides of the nose
Loosen rather than tighten first, then reseat the cushion. If the seal will not hold at comfortable tension, try another cushion size.
Mouth leaks
A chinstrap can keep the mouth closed. If you still breathe through your mouth, ask your clinician about a full face mask.
Cleaning and care
Do not submerge or wash the foam cushion. Wipe its outside with CPAP or alcohol-free wipes, let it dry, and keep it out of direct sunlight and away from household cleaners. Hand wash the frame, headgear and elbow in warm water with mild liquid detergent, then air dry out of direct sunlight. Do not use ozone or UV cleaning devices.
How often to replace parts
- Mask
- 1 complete mask every 3 months (Medicare A7034, nasal interface).
- Cushion
- ResMed recommends replacing the memory foam cushion about once a month, or sooner if it deteriorates. Medicare typically allows up to 2 nasal cushions per month (A7032).
- Headgear
- 1 every 6 months (Medicare A7035).
Supplies that can help
Pre-moistened wipes for a quick daily wipe of the mask cushion, mostly to remove skin oils between proper washes.
A soft strap that supports the jaw to help keep the mouth closed, used mainly with nasal and nasal pillow masks to reduce mouth leaks.
Soft fabric sleeves that wrap mask headgear straps to stop red lines, rubbing and hair tangles.
A simple hook or hanger for drying CPAP tubing vertically after washing, and for keeping it off the floor.

Frequently asked questions
Can you wash the AirTouch N20 foam cushion?
No. ResMed says the foam cushion must not be submerged in liquid. Wipe it with CPAP or alcohol-free wipes and wash only the frame, headgear and elbow.
How often should I replace the AirTouch N20 cushion?
ResMed recommends about once a month, sooner if the foam breaks down or discolors. That is more often than a silicone cushion because foam cannot be washed.
Is the AirTouch N20 the same as the AirFit N20?
It uses the same frame, headgear and magnetic clips. The difference is the cushion: memory foam on the AirTouch, silicone on the AirFit, and the two cushions are interchangeable size for size.
