Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle (Auto and CPAP)
The SleepStyle is Fisher & Paykel's bedside machine with a built-in heated humidifier and power supply, sold as the SleepStyle Auto (auto-adjusting or fixed pressure) and, outside the US, the SleepStyle CPAP (fixed pressure), both with a 4 to 20 cm H2O range. Comfort features include a 20-minute ramp, SensAwake pressure relief when you wake, Expiratory relief and ThermoSmart heated tubing. Data goes to an InfoUSB stick, the SleepStyle app over Bluetooth, and on some US models a cellular modem.
Fisher & Paykel's US website states that it is no longer selling the F&P SleepStyle CPAP device in the United States and that it will keep supporting existing users, who should contact their equipment provider for spares and replacement parts. The notice is undated (seen October 2026). The SleepStyle launched in New Zealand and Australia in 2017 and was made available in the US in 2019, per Sleep Review. The US models in the user guide are the SleepStyle Auto SPSAAU (with cellular modem) and SPSABU (without).

Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- The humidifier and power supply are built in, so there is no separate power brick or add-on tank.
- Humidity has eight steps (0 to 7) and ThermoSmart tubing is designed to cut condensation.
- The InfoUSB is a standard USB stick that OSCAR can read, and it stores up to five years of summary data.
- The water chamber, chamber seal and outlet seal can go in the dishwasher once every 7 days.
- Runs on 100 to 115 V or 220 to 240 V, so it works abroad with a plug adapter.
Trade-offs
- No longer sold in the US, so replacement parts depend on what equipment providers still stock.
- Fisher & Paykel says it is not certified for use on an aircraft.
- No DC input: battery use needs an inverter or an AC portable power station, sized for at least 112 Wh for 8 hours at 10 cm H2O with humidity off.
- At 3.7 lb it is heavier than travel machines.
- The air filter needs replacing at least every 3 months, more often than many machines.
- The ThermoSmart tube cannot be washed or disinfected with hot water.
Comfort settings you can change
These are in the patient menu. Your prescribed pressure and therapy mode are set by your clinician and are not covered here.
Ramp
Raises the pressure gradually to your prescribed level over a 20-minute period.
How to change it: Press and hold Start/Stop for 3 seconds until the Ramp symbol appears. Do the same to restart Ramp during the night.
Humidity
Sets how much moisture the heated humidifier adds, from 0 (off) to 7 (most). The default is 5.
How to change it: Press Down, Up or Menu to bring up the Humidity setting, then press Down or Up to change the level. It saves on its own after a short time. Set it to 0 if you run without water or need low power, for example on a battery.
Expiratory relief
Lowers the pressure when you breathe out and returns to your prescribed pressure when you breathe in. Off is 0, Low 1, Medium 2 and High 3 cm H2O of relief.
How to change it: Press Menu to scroll to Expiratory relief, then press Down or Up to choose Off, Low, Medium or High. Your provider may have restricted this setting; if it is locked, ask them.
SensAwake
Detects when you are waking during the night and lowers the pressure to help you get back to sleep.
How to change it: Press Menu to scroll to SensAwake, then press Down or Up to switch between ON and OFF. Your provider may have restricted this setting.
Bluetooth
Turns the Bluetooth link to the SleepStyle app on or off. Turning it on also makes the machine discoverable for 15 minutes.
How to change it: From the home screen, hold Menu for 5 seconds, press Menu to scroll to the Bluetooth setting, then press Down or Up to change it. Your selection flashes to confirm.
Cellular modem (some models)
Sends your therapy data automatically to your healthcare provider. If you turn it off, it turns itself back on after 3 days.
How to change it: From the home screen, hold Menu for 5 seconds and press Menu to reach the Cellular Modem setting, then press Down or Up. Fisher & Paykel says to leave it on so your provider receives your data, and to keep the machine at least 8 in (20 cm) from your body when the modem is on.
Cleaning and care
After every use: tube, water chamber, chamber seal and elbow
Hand wash the breathing tube, water chamber, chamber seal and elbow in a tub of warm, soapy water with mild dishwashing detergent. Rinse them in clean water for 30 seconds, then rinse again in fresh water.
Hang the tube with both ends pointing to the floor, away from sunlight and heat such as heated towel rails. Separate the elbow from a standard tube to wash it. Never use hot water on the ThermoSmart tube, which can deform it and reduce your pressure.
If dirt stays in the tube
Use a soft, non-metallic brush inside the tube and rinse again. If the dirt will not come out, replace the tube.
Every 7 days: outlet seal, elbow and machine
Pull out the outlet seal by its tab and hand wash it and the elbow in warm soapy water, then rinse twice and let them dry out of sunlight.
Turn the machine off at the wall, unplug the cord, and wipe the outside and the chamber housing with a damp (not dripping) cloth and mild soapy water. Never put the machine in water.
Dishwasher option
Once every 7 days you can wash the water chamber, chamber seal and outlet seal in a home dishwasher. Put the water chamber on the top rack and place the seals somewhere they cannot fall through.
Mineral deposits
Distilled water reduces deposits. If they build up, soak the water chamber for 10 minutes in 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water, empty it and rinse twice with clean water, then let it dry.
Air filter
The filter is on the back. Replace it at least once every 3 months, or sooner if it is clogged. Pinch it to pull it out, then push the new one in by its short side so there are no gaps. Never run the machine without a filter.
What not to use
Do not use bleach, alcohol, or cleaners with citrus or other natural oils, and do not use ozone. Fisher & Paykel warns ozone residue can irritate the nose, throat and lungs and can degrade the device.
Replacement parts
- Tubing
- ThermoSmart breathing tube 900SPS120 or standard breathing tube with elbow 900SPS121; spare elbow 900SPS122 for the standard tube. Both fit a 22 mm conical connector. Service life 12 months.
- Filters
- Air filter 900SPS111 (single) or 900SPS110 (2-pack). Replace at least every 3 months.
- Water chamber
- Water chamber 900SPS100 (380 mL to the maximum line) and chamber seal 900SPS101. Service life 12 months.

- Other parts: outlet seal 900SPS141, device lid 900SPS140, carry bag 900SPS142, InfoUSB 900SW101 and North American power cord 900SPS160. Fisher & Paykel lists a 5 year service life for the machine. Since F&P no longer sells the SleepStyle in the US, ask your equipment provider which spares they still carry. Use only F&P tubes and accessories with this machine.
Troubleshooting
Therapy will not start and the screen is blank
Push the power cord firmly into the wall and the back of the machine. After a storm or power outage, check your circuit breaker. If the screen still will not turn on, return the machine to your provider.
Therapy will not start but the screen is on
There may be water in the blower. Turn it off at the wall and unplug it, remove the water chamber, keep the lid open and tip the machine upside down to drain it, then put the chamber back and restart. Also check the screen for an error code.
The pressure fluctuates or the air feels weak
Refit your mask to stop leaks, hang the tube with both ends down to drain any water, and make sure the lid is closed, the chamber seal is on and the outlet seal is in place. Move other electrical devices away, since interference can cause fluctuations.
The machine restarted by itself
Fisher & Paykel says electromagnetic interference can cause a restart and the machine will resume therapy on its own. If it keeps happening, give it more space from other electrical devices.
The machine is noisy
Make sure the lid is closed properly, the tube and mask are connected and there is no leak or water in the tube. A sound that changes as you breathe in and out is the motor adjusting, which is normal.
I do not think the humidifier is working
Check the humidity level is above 0 and the chamber has water. Reconnect the ThermoSmart tube until its icon appears. If interference lowered the humidity, stop and restart therapy with the Start/Stop button to restore full humidity.
Water is building up on the heater plate
Condensation forms as the machine cools. Leave it plugged in and switched on at the wall after therapy, and wipe the chamber housing dry before each use. If the water build-up is excessive, contact your provider.
The base is warm when I am not using it
This is normal. In standby the machine uses about 5 W, which can feel warm.
The app will not pair or sync
Turn Bluetooth off and on on your phone, then on the SleepStyle. Unplugging and replugging the machine makes it discoverable again for 15 minutes; the device name is SleepStyle plus the last four digits of the serial number.
Travel and power
The SleepStyle has a universal voltage power supply (100 to 115 V or 220 to 240 V) and works in most countries with a plug adapter. Fisher & Paykel states that it is not certified for use on an aircraft, so check with your airline whether you can bring it as carry-on and do not plan to use it in flight. Empty the water chamber before you pack it, and do not run it with water in the chamber in a moving vehicle or boat.
There is no DC input. To run it off-grid, Fisher & Paykel's Portable Power Guide says to use an AC portable power supply, or a battery with an inverter rated 150 W continuous or more (pure or modified sine wave, 50 or 60 Hz). With humidity set to 0 and an average pressure of 10 cm H2O, it lists at least 56 Wh for 4 hours, 84 Wh for 6 hours and 112 Wh for 8 hours; at 20 cm H2O, 192 Wh for 8 hours. Humidity above 0 uses more power. F&P does not recommend any particular battery brand.
Your sleep data
The SleepStyle keeps your data in several places. The My Data screen on the machine shows usage hours, whether mask leak was normal or high, and AHI for last night, the last 7 days and the last 30 days (your provider can hide the AHI screen). Fisher & Paykel notes the device AHI is not equivalent to an AASM sleep study AHI and should not be used on its own for decisions about your treatment.
The SleepStyle app (iPhone and Android) syncs over Bluetooth each time you press Stop, and the SleepStyle website can read the InfoUSB stick from a computer; availability varies by country, and with F&P's US exit, check that the app still works for you. Models with a cellular modem send data straight to your provider. The InfoUSB stores up to 5 years of summary data, 365 days of detailed data and 140 hours of high-resolution pressure, leak and flow data; your provider can also put prescription changes on it. OSCAR has a dedicated SleepStyle loader, so you can open a copy of the InfoUSB data in OSCAR. Only use the F&P InfoUSB in the machine; other USB drives can corrupt the data.
Supplies that can help
Distilled water is what most CPAP humidifier chambers are meant to be filled with, because it leaves little or no mineral scale behind.
The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.
Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.
A long, flexible brush sized to reach the full length of CPAP tubing so you can scrub the inside, not just soak it.
A simple hook or hanger for drying CPAP tubing vertically after washing, and for keeping it off the floor.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle discontinued?
In the US, yes. Fisher & Paykel's US site says it is no longer selling the SleepStyle in the United States, but it will keep supporting existing users. Your equipment provider is the place to get spares and replacement parts.
Can I take the SleepStyle on a plane?
You can ask your airline about bringing it as carry-on, but Fisher & Paykel says the SleepStyle is not certified for use on an aircraft. Empty the water chamber before packing it.
What do SleepStyle error codes mean?
Codes 100 to 199 mean the machine may not deliver effective therapy, so restart it at the wall and call your provider if it continues. Codes 400 to 499 mean humidity may be off, and 500 to 599 point to the ThermoSmart tube; in those cases you are still treated at your prescribed pressure. For 510 or 512, reconnect the ThermoSmart tube first.
How often should I change the SleepStyle filter, tube and water chamber?
Fisher & Paykel lists a 3 month life for the air filter and 12 months for the breathing tubes and water chamber. Replace any part sooner if it cracks, discolors, deforms or leaks.
Can OSCAR read SleepStyle data?
Yes. OSCAR includes a SleepStyle loader that reads the FPHCARE data on the InfoUSB stick. Copy the stick on your computer, then put it back in the machine so recording continues.
What is SensAwake on the SleepStyle?
SensAwake watches your breathing for signs that you are waking and lowers the pressure to help you fall back asleep. You can switch it on or off by pressing Menu to reach the SensAwake setting, unless your provider has restricted it.
