Breas Z2 Auto Travel CPAP
The Breas Z2 Auto is an ultra-small travel auto CPAP (about 10.5 oz, 6.5 x 3.3 x 2.0 in) that runs auto-adjusting or fixed pressure from 4 to 20 cm H2O, works with standard non-proprietary masks, and humidifies with a disposable waterless HME instead of a water tank. It has Z-Breathe pressure swing relief, ramp, optional Auto Start/Stop, Bluetooth for the Nitelog app, and an optional PowerShell battery. Breas discontinued the whole Z line on November 30, 2025, but parts and accessories stay on sale through October 2030.
Breas states it has discontinued the Z Sleep Travel CPAP line (Z1, Z2, Z1 Auto and Z2 Auto), the PowerShell and the Q-tube effective November 30, 2025. Service parts and patient accessories remain available through October 2030 with no returns, and warranty and service are unchanged under Breas's warranty policy; Breas's site still lists retailers that may have devices in stock. We found no FDA recall of the Z2 or Z2 Auto in FDA's recall database; the Breas Medical recalls listed there concern its Vivo ventilators and accessories.

Comfort settings you can change
These are in the patient menu. Your prescribed pressure and therapy mode are set by your clinician and are not covered here.
Ramp time
Starts therapy at a lower pressure and climbs to your prescribed pressure over 0 to 45 minutes, in 5 minute steps. 00 turns ramp off.
How to change it: In standby (0.0 on screen), press and hold the Up arrow for about 3 seconds until the minutes flash. Press Up or Down to change it, then press and hold Start/Stop for about 3 seconds to save. A quick press of Start/Stop exits without saving.
Ramp start pressure
The pressure ramp begins at, in 0.5 cm H2O steps. It must stay below your prescribed pressure, and ramp time must be at least 5 minutes first or you will see FAIL 2. If you are unsure what start pressure is right for you, ask your clinician.
How to change it: In standby, press and hold the Down arrow for 3 seconds until the pressure flashes. Press Up or Down to adjust, then hold Start/Stop for about 3 seconds to save.
Z-Breathe
Breas's comfort feature that smooths the pressure spike when you breathe out and the dip when you breathe in. 1 is mild, 2 (the default) is moderate and 3 is the strongest. The screen shows it after the mode, for example APAP 2.
How to change it: In standby, press and hold the Up and Down arrow buttons together until the mode indicator flashes, choose 1, 2 or 3 with the arrows, then press and hold Start/Stop to save.
Auto Start/Stop
Starts therapy when you put the mask on and breathe, and stops it when you take the mask off or a large leak is detected. Shipped turned off, and it may not work with full face masks.
How to change it: In standby, press and hold the Up and Down arrow buttons together until the Z-Breathe setting flashes and release. Hold both again until the Auto Start/Stop setting flashes, release, press Up to turn it on (Down to turn it off), then hold Start/Stop to save.
Bluetooth (airplane mode)
Turns the Bluetooth link to the Nitelog app on or off. Breas says Bluetooth must be off in flight to stay FAA compliant.
How to change it: Immediately after plugging the power adapter into the Z2, hold the Up arrow until "bt-On" shows. To turn it off, unplug, plug back in and immediately hold the Down arrow until "bt-Off" shows.
HME humidification
The HME traps moisture from your breath and returns it on the next breath; there is no humidity dial. Store it in a sealed plastic bag between uses to make it last.
How to change it: Fit the HME between the tube and the mask, small end to the tube, large end to the mask. Replace it every 7 days or sooner if it stops humidifying.
Cleaning and care
Every day: tube
Take the CPAP tube, Q-lite and mask off the Z2. Wash the tube in warm water with mild detergent, rinse well and hang it to dry. Do not soak it longer than 10 minutes, which can shorten its life. Do not wash the Q-lite; just check it for cracks.
Every day: mask and HME
Clean the mask as its maker instructs. The HME is disposable and is not washed; keep it in a sealed bag between uses and throw it out after 7 days.
Weekly: filter check
Pull off the End Cap and look at the filter for holes or dust. Replace it every month, or sooner if it looks dirty. The filter is not washable or reusable, and you must never run the Z2 without one.
Every 90 days: tube
Replace the CPAP tube every 90 days, or sooner if it is discolored, cracked or damaged, and keep it out of prolonged sunlight.
As needed: outside of the device
Unplug, then wipe the outside of the Z2 with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent. Never submerge it or let water inside. Do not use bleach, chlorine, alcohol, aromatic solutions, moisturizing or antibacterial soaps or scented oils on the Z2, power supply, PowerShell or battery.
Replacement parts
- Tubing
- 6 ft slim style tube 006908, tube adapter 005779 (required), Q-lite inline muffler 007961 with 8 in extension tube. Replace the tube every 90 days.
- Filters
- Z2 filters, 2 pack, part 005788 (polyester); replace monthly. Only the Breas Z2 filter is approved; Breas warns other filters can cause overheating.
- Water chamber
- None; the Z2 Auto uses disposable HME cartridges (part 005998), each lasting up to 7 days
- Replacement notes
- Breas says service parts and patient accessories for the discontinued Z line remain available through October 2030, with no returns. Other parts: replacement End Cap 007098, power supply 005755, PowerShell with extended life battery 005767, extended life battery 006910, Z2 bag 009001. Breas says these accessories fit both the Z1 and Z2. Warranty per the user guide: Z2 Auto 2 years, PowerShell 1 year, extended life battery 6 months, power supply 1 year.
Troubleshooting
The screen is blank.
Check that the power supply is connected and the outlet works, and that the cord is seated in the AC adapter. In the PowerShell, slide the Z2 in until it clicks, make sure the battery shuttle clicks into place, and charge the battery. Only a Breas power supply will work.
Therapy will not start.
Look for a FAULT code on the screen. If Auto Start/Stop is on and you use a full face mask, it may not trigger; press Start/Stop instead or turn the feature off.
Therapy keeps shutting off.
With Auto Start/Stop on, a large leak looks like the mask coming off. Reseat the mask, check every connection from the Z2 to the mask, and press Start/Stop. If it keeps happening, turn Auto Start/Stop off.
Not enough air.
Replace a dirty filter, clear the air intake, and check the tube adapter, Q-lite, tube and HME are all connected and not pinched or punctured. If ramp is on, wait for it to reach your pressure or shorten it.
Pressure jumps up for no reason.
Talking, coughing or breathing oddly can make an auto machine raise pressure, as can a leak at a tube connection. Breathe normally with your mouth closed on a nasal mask and check for leaks.
Mask cushion vibrates or leaks.
Stop therapy, take the mask off, reposition it and adjust the headgear, then restart.
The Z2 was left in a hot car.
Let it cool before use, then unplug and replug the power cord to restart it.
My nose and throat feel dry with the HME.
Replace the HME if it is more than 7 days old or has been left unbagged. The Z2 cannot use a heated humidifier, so if dryness keeps disrupting your sleep, ask your clinician whether a home machine with heated humidity suits you better.
The Nitelog app will not connect.
Bluetooth may be off (airplane mode). Unplug the power, plug it back in and immediately hold the Up arrow until "bt-On" shows. Access is password protected, so a wrong password blocks the app.
Travel and power
Breas's FAA compliance letter says the Z2 CPAP and Z2 Auto comply with RTCA/DO-160, Section 21, Category M and can be considered FAA compliant, and the user guide says the Z2 complies with RTCA DO-160G for use in flight and adjusts to cabin pressure. To stay compliant in the air, Bluetooth must be off (airplane mode), so set "bt-Off" before boarding and carry the letter. Some airlines want advance notice or require battery operation, so check with yours. The power supply takes 100 to 240 V, 50 to 60 Hz, so abroad you only need a plug adapter. The only approved battery is the Breas PowerShell with its extended life battery, which Breas rates for a full night on a single charge; the battery charges when the Z2 is not in use. Breas warns not to use any other battery or power source. Because the HME needs no water, there is nothing to empty before you fly, and the Z2 adjusts for altitude up to 8,000 ft.
Your sleep data
The Z2 Auto has no SD card for you to pull. Breas's free Nitelog app connects over Bluetooth on iOS or Android to view your sleep data and share it with your provider, and Breas also offers Windows user software that reads the Z2 over the supplied USB cable. If the battery icon appears in the status area, the internal battery needs replacing and the device has stopped logging data, although therapy continues. OSCAR's 2.x release notes on the official download page do not mention Breas or Z2 support, so do not count on importing Z2 data into OSCAR.
Supplies that can help
A heat and moisture exchanger (HME) that captures warmth and moisture from your breath and returns it on the next breath, used mostly with travel CPAPs …
The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.
The plain hose between the machine and the mask; it wears out and should be replaced on a regular schedule.
A padded bag that protects the machine, mask, tubing and power supply in transit.
Pre-moistened wipes for a quick daily wipe of the mask cushion, mostly to remove skin oils between proper washes.
Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Breas Z2 Auto discontinued?
Yes. Breas says it discontinued the Z1, Z2, Z1 Auto and Z2 Auto, along with the PowerShell and Q-tube, effective November 30, 2025. Parts and accessories remain on sale through October 2030 and warranty and service continue under Breas's policy.
Can I still buy filters and HMEs for my Z2 Auto?
Yes, through October 2030 according to Breas, from medical supply retailers such as smallcpap.com. Use only genuine Z2 filters, because Breas warns other filters can make the device overheat.
Can I use the Breas Z2 Auto on a plane?
Breas's FAA letter says the Z2 Auto complies with RTCA/DO-160 Section 21 Category M, so it can be considered FAA compliant. Turn Bluetooth off ("bt-Off") before the flight, bring the letter, and check whether your airline wants advance notice or battery power.
Does the Z2 Auto have a humidifier?
No. It uses a disposable heat moisture exchanger (HME) that fits between the tube and your mask and recycles moisture from your breath. Replace it every 7 days, and keep it in a sealed bag between uses.
What is Z-Breathe on the Z2 Auto?
Z-Breathe is Breas's pressure swing relief, which smooths the pressure spike when you exhale and the dip when you inhale. Level 1 is mild, 2 is the default and 3 is the strongest, and you change it in standby with the arrow buttons. It is a comfort setting; your prescribed pressure stays with your provider.
Can I use any CPAP battery with the Z2 Auto?
No. The user guide says to power the Z2 only with the Breas power supply or the Breas PowerShell with its battery, and not to use any other battery or power source. The PowerShell has also been discontinued, so check availability before planning trips around it.
