How to set up the Breas Z2 Auto Travel CPAP

From the box to your first night. Keep the user guide that came with your machine nearby: if anything here differs from it, follow the guide.

  1. Unpack and check the box

    You should have the Z2 Auto, power supply (adapter and cord), USB cable, custom tube adapter, 6 ft slim tube, 8 in slim tube, two filters (one already installed), an HME, the Q-lite muffler, a quick start guide and the user guide. A mask is not included.

  2. Check the filter and End Cap

    The first filter comes installed. If you ever replace it, squeeze the sides of the End Cap, pull it down and off, seat the new filter with its arched side toward the top so it covers every hole, then press the End Cap back on. The Z2 may not run without the End Cap fitted.

  3. Build the air path

    Connect the 8 in tube to the round end of the tube adapter and push the adapter into the Z2 outlet. Connect the 8 in tube to the Q-lite, the Q-lite to the 6 ft tube, the 6 ft tube to the small end of the HME, and the large end of the HME to your mask. Make every connection snug.

  4. Connect power

    Plug the cord into the AC adapter, the cord into the wall, then the adapter into the Z2. After about 10 seconds of startup screens it shows 0.0 in standby.

  5. Check your prescribed setting

    Press Start/Stop briefly to see the treatment pressure. If the pressure shown is not what your provider told you, contact your provider before using it; only they can set the mode and pressure.

  6. Set ramp and Z-Breathe if you want them

    In standby, set ramp time, ramp start pressure and Z-Breathe level with the arrow buttons as the quick start guide describes.

  7. Decide on Auto Start/Stop

    It ships turned off. Turn it on if you want therapy to start when you breathe into the mask; leave it off if you use a full face mask, since it may not trigger.

  8. Start therapy

    Put on your mask and press Start/Stop (or breathe in, if Auto Start/Stop is on). Place the Z2 where its air intake cannot be blocked by bedding. Press Start/Stop again to stop.

After setup: settings worth knowing

  • Ramp time: Starts therapy at a lower pressure and climbs to your prescribed pressure over 0 to 45 minutes, in 5 minute steps. 00 turns ramp off.
  • Ramp start pressure: The pressure ramp begins at, in 0.5 cm H2O steps. It must stay below your prescribed pressure, and ramp time must be at least 5 minutes first or you will see FAIL 2. If you are unsure what start pressure is right for you, ask your clinician.
  • Z-Breathe: Breas's comfort feature that smooths the pressure spike when you breathe out and the dip when you breathe in. 1 is mild, 2 (the default) is moderate and 3 is the strongest. The screen shows it after the mode, for example APAP 2.
  • Auto Start/Stop: Starts therapy when you put the mask on and breathe, and stops it when you take the mask off or a large leak is detected. Shipped turned off, and it may not work with full face masks.
  • Bluetooth (airplane mode): Turns the Bluetooth link to the Nitelog app on or off. Breas says Bluetooth must be off in flight to stay FAA compliant.
  • HME humidification: The HME traps moisture from your breath and returns it on the next breath; there is no humidity dial. Store it in a sealed plastic bag between uses to make it last.
