Philips DreamStation Go (CPAP and Auto CPAP)

The DreamStation Go is Philips' travel CPAP, sold as a fixed pressure CPAP and an Auto CPAP, with a touchscreen, built-in USB phone charging port, optional snap-on battery pack and optional DreamStation Go heated humidifier. It weighs about 1.88 lb and ships with 12 mm micro-flexible tubing. It is on the June 14, 2021 PE-PUR foam recall list as DreamStation Go (CPAP, APAP).

Recalled

Philips' June 14, 2021 recall notification lists DreamStation Go (CPAP and APAP) among the affected CPAP devices, covering all units made before April 26, 2021, because the PE-PUR sound abatement foam can break down into particles and release chemicals. The FDA lists DreamStation Go on its recalled devices page and classified the recall as Class I in July 2021. Under the consent decree entered April 9, 2024, Philips must carry out a Recall Remediation Plan that gives affected patients a new or reworked device or, for some devices, a partial refund. The FDA's advice is to talk to your health care provider before stopping or continuing a recalled device, register the serial number with Philips (877-907-7508), not use ozone or UV cleaners, not add a filter, and not try to remove the foam.

Comfort settings you can change

These are in the patient menu. Your prescribed pressure and therapy mode are set by your clinician and are not covered here.

Ramp start pressure and Ramp Time

Starts at a lower pressure and rises to your prescription over the ramp time.

How to change it: Therapy off: swipe to My Comfort, tap, choose Ramp (0.5 cm H2O steps) or Ramp Time. During therapy, tap the Ramp icon to start the ramp.

Flex type and Flex level

Exhale pressure relief. Level 1 is mild, higher is more relief, and you can turn it off.

How to change it: My Comfort, then Flex (Type) or Flex (Level). A lock icon means your supplier locked it.

Mask Type

Matches pressure compensation to your Philips mask's System One resistance setting.

How to change it: My Comfort, then Mask Type.

Tube Type

Tells the machine whether you use 12, 15 or 22 tubing so pressure is correct.

How to change it: My Comfort, then Tube Type, swipe to choose.

Check Mask Fit

40 second leak test that ends with a green check or red X.

How to change it: Mask on, My Comfort, then Check Mask Fit, tap to start.

Therapy Ring light

Keeps the therapy button light on or lets it dim with the screen.

How to change it: My Device, then Therapy Ring, Light On or Light Dims.

Cleaning and care

  1. Daily: tubing and adapters

The DreamStation Go manual says to clean the tubing and any adapters before first use and daily: wash gently in warm water with mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and air dry, then check for damage.

  2. Every two weeks: device and battery

Unplug everything. Wipe the outside of the device or battery pack with a cloth slightly dampened with water and let it dry completely before reconnecting.

  3. Filters

Rinse the reusable filter at least every two weeks by running warm tap water through the white middle, tabs down, shake it out and let it dry completely. Replace it every six months. Replace the disposable fine filter after 30 nights or sooner if clogged, and never rinse it. The machine reminds you every 30 days but cannot tell if you changed it.

  4. Humidifier

If you use the DreamStation Go heated humidifier, follow its own manual for cleaning the water tank.

  5. No ozone or UV cleaners

The FDA says not to use ozone or UV light cleaners on recalled Philips CPAP machines, because ozone may worsen the breakdown of the PE-PUR foam even if you do not see foam pieces.

Replacement parts

Troubleshooting

Nothing happens on battery power

Make sure the pack is latched on, press its button to wake it in standalone mode, let it warm or cool to room temperature, and recharge or replace it if needed.

Battery pack LEDs will not light while charging

If fully drained, wait a few minutes. If they still do not light, the pack may be damaged and need replacing.

Battery pack LED flashes rapidly

Let the pack reach room temperature, unplug and replug the power cord to the pack. If it keeps flashing, replace the pack.

Pressure feels too high or too low

Make sure Tube Type matches the number on your tubing cuff (12, 15 or none for 22). Any change to prescribed pressure comes from your clinician.

Ramp does not work

Your supplier may not have enabled it, or your pressure or ramp start is already at the minimum, or ramp time is 0.

Whistling from the machine

Check that the air inlet is clear, the filter is seated and not clogged, and the tube is fully pushed in.

Black debris in the tube or mask

That matches the recall's foam breakdown description. Contact your clinician, register with Philips, and report it to the FDA through MedWatch.

Travel and power

The DreamStation Go manual includes an FAA compliance letter stating that the DreamStation Go CPAP, Auto CPAP and battery pack meet RTCA DO-160 section 21, Category M under 14 CFR 382, and the manual says it is suitable for airline use on AC power or the battery pack. It runs on 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, so abroad you may only need a plug adapter. The optional lithium ion battery pack is rated 62 Wh with more than 8 hours of run time and recharges in under 5 hours; check your airline's rules for carrying spare lithium batteries. The manual does not describe a DC car or RV cord. Carry it in the cabin, since the optional case does not protect it in checked bags. Because it is recalled, talk to your clinician about whether to travel with it.

Your sleep data

The DreamStation Go has Bluetooth for the DreamMapper app, a microSD card that records data for your supplier, and a micro USB port your supplier can use to pull data. My Info shows last session, therapy hours, AHI, mask fit, periodic breathing and 90% pressure over 1, 7 and 30 days if your supplier enabled them. OSCAR's Philips loader lists DreamStation Go and DreamStation Go Auto models, so you can review the microSD card data yourself. Pressure changes go through your clinician.

Supplies that can help

Replacement CPAP air filters

The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.

Standard (unheated) CPAP tubing

The plain hose between the machine and the mask; it wears out and should be replaced on a regular schedule.

CPAP travel case

A padded bag that protects the machine, mask, tubing and power supply in transit.

Frequently asked questions

Was the DreamStation Go part of the Philips recall?

Yes. Philips' June 14, 2021 recall notification lists DreamStation Go (CPAP and APAP) made before April 26, 2021, and the FDA lists it on its recalled devices page. Check your serial number on Philips' recall site or call 877-907-7508.

How long does the DreamStation Go battery last?

The manual lists more than 8 hours of run time for the 62 Wh battery pack, and says a full charge typically lasts 8 hours depending on settings, mask leak and conditions. First charge takes up to 5 hours, and the pack's expected service life is 3 years.

Does the DreamStation Go have a humidifier?

Not built in. Philips made a separate DreamStation Go heated humidifier that attaches to it, with its own manual.

Can I use my DreamStation Go on a plane?

The manual says yes, on AC power or the battery pack, and includes an FAA compliance letter for the device and battery pack. Keep it in your carry-on and check your airline's lithium battery rules.

Should I stop using my recalled DreamStation Go?

The FDA says to discuss it with your health care provider, since stopping can carry more risk than continuing for some people. Do not add a filter or try to remove the foam, and do not use ozone or UV cleaners.
