ResMed · Full face mask

ResMed Mirage Quattro

An older ResMed full face mask with a forehead support adjusted by a MicroFit dial and a dual-wall Spring Air cushion designed to follow jaw movement. It has no magnets. ResMed's US site still lists it, but it predates the AirFit line and many suppliers now offer the AirFit F20 in its place.

SizesExtra Small, Small, Medium, Large
Works withAll standard CPAP, APAP and BiPAP machines with a 22 mm tube connection, including ResMed AirSense and AirCurve, Philips, React Health, Fisher & Paykel and other brands.

Usually suits

  • People with a pacemaker or other implant who need a non-magnetic full face mask
  • Long-time Quattro users who want to stay on a familiar mask
  • Mouth breathers who sleep on their back

Design

  • Forehead support with a MicroFit dial offering about two dozen positions
  • Mirage dual-wall cushion with Spring Air technology to accommodate jaw drop
  • No magnets in the headgear
  • Fewer parts than many older full face masks, for easier cleaning

Strengths and trade-offs

  • No magnets, so the magnet implant contraindication does not apply
  • Forehead support and dial allow fine adjustment at the nose bridge
  • Four cushion sizes including Extra Small
  • Larger mask with a forehead support, which blocks glasses and can feel bulky
  • Older design; parts such as replacement headgear may be harder to find
  • Covers the bridge of the nose, where marks can form

Finding your size

Sizing is by cushion (Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large). The cushion should cover your nose and mouth from the bridge of the nose to just below the lower lip. After fitting, use the MicroFit dial to move the forehead support in or out until the cushion sits evenly on the bridge of your nose without pressing hard. Your supplier can size you; ResMed's AirFit sizes do not map directly onto Quattro sizes.

How to fit it

  1. Loosen the dial and straps

Set the MicroFit dial to a middle position and loosen the headgear straps before putting the mask on.

  2. Place the mask

Hold the cushion over your nose and mouth, then pull the headgear over your head so the forehead support rests on your forehead.

  3. Fasten the straps

Attach the lower straps and adjust the upper and lower straps evenly until the mask is stable.

  4. Adjust the forehead dial

Turn on your machine. Turn the MicroFit dial to move the forehead support until the cushion seals at the bridge of your nose without pressing hard.

  5. Check in your sleep position

Lie down in your usual position and make small strap adjustments if you feel leaks.

Common problems and fixes

Air leaking into your eyes

Turn the MicroFit dial to bring the cushion closer at the nose bridge, then recheck the upper straps. Do not crank the straps tight.

Pressure or a sore on the bridge of the nose

Turn the dial the other way to ease pressure at the bridge and loosen the upper straps. If skin breaks down, talk to your clinician about a different mask.

Mask lifts when your jaw drops

Check the lower straps are snug enough and that the cushion size is right.

Cleaning and care

Take the cushion off and wash the cushion and mask frame daily in warm water with a mild liquid detergent, rinse well and air dry out of direct sunlight. Hand wash the headgear weekly. Do not use harsh cleaners or ozone or UV devices.

Frequently asked questions

Is the ResMed Mirage Quattro discontinued?

ResMed's US healthcare professional site still lists the Mirage Quattro, but it is an older design and some suppliers point patients to the AirFit F20 instead. If parts are hard to get, ask your supplier about a current mask.

Does the Mirage Quattro have magnets?

No. It uses standard headgear clips, which makes it one of the options for people who cannot use a magnetic mask because of an implant.

What does the dial on the Mirage Quattro do?

It is the MicroFit dial. It moves the forehead support in small steps so you can fine-tune how firmly the cushion sits on the bridge of your nose.
