ResMed AirMini
How to set up the ResMed AirMini
From the box to your first night. Keep the user guide that came with your machine nearby: if anything here differs from it, follow the guide.
Check what came in the box
You should have the AirMini machine, a 20W power supply, a drawstring bag and a setup or mask pack. Depending on the pack, that includes AirMini tubing plus a full face connector, an N20 connector, or an AirMini version of the AirFit N30 or AirFit P10 mask, and one or more HumidX inserts.
If a part is missing or looks cracked, call the CPAP equipment store that supplied it before your first night.
Plug in the power
Plug the power supply into the machine and into a wall outlet. The green light on the power supply should come on, and so should the green light above the Start/Stop button on the machine.
Do not plug a USB cable into the AirMini or try to power it from a USB port. ResMed warns this can damage the machine or the USB device.
Attach the tubing
Connect the gray end of the AirMini tubing firmly to the air outlet on the machine. AirMini tubing is narrower than standard CPAP hose and is the only tubing that fits this machine.
Add the HumidX if you use one
With a nasal or pillows connector, gently twist the connector open, hold the HumidX by its sides with the colored side pointing down, insert it, then push the connector back together and twist until it locks.
With an F20 full face mask, hold the HumidX F20 with the ResMed logo facing away and push it into the mask's air inlet until it clicks. Start with the blue HumidX; the gray HumidX Plus adds more moisture for very dry air, such as on a plane or at altitude.
Install the AirMini app and pair it
Download the AirMini app from the App Store or Google Play, turn on Bluetooth on your phone, open the app and accept the terms. When the app asks, press the Bluetooth button on the machine; the light flashes blue when it is ready to pair.
Tap Connect, choose your machine from the list, then enter the four-digit key printed on the back of the machine or tap Scan code to scan the QR code there. A Bluetooth icon in the top right of the app means you are connected.
Check your mask fit
Fit your mask using its own user guide. Then run Mask Fit in the AirMini app; ResMed says Mask Fit can only be run from the app, not from the machine.
Adjust the headgear until the app shows a good seal. Air leaking toward your eyes is the most common cause of a poor fit.
Look over your comfort settings
In the app, open the Sleep screen and tap the options on the Therapy screen to see Ramp Time, SmartStart, SmartStop and, if your provider has turned it on, Pressure Relief. Your provider set the machine up for you, and these are the settings you are allowed to adjust for comfort.
Your prescribed pressure is set by your provider. If the pressure itself feels wrong, call them rather than trying to change it.
Start your first night
Lie down with the mask on and press the Start/Stop button, or just breathe normally into the mask if SmartStart is on. Arrange the tubing so it cannot wrap around your neck.
To stop, take the mask off and press Start/Stop, or wait a few seconds if SmartStop is on. If the power cuts out during the night, the machine restarts therapy on its own when power returns.
After setup: settings worth knowing
- Ramp Time: Starts the night at a lower pressure and raises it gradually to your prescribed pressure, so falling asleep is easier.
- Pressure Relief (EPR): Lowers the pressure slightly each time you breathe out, then returns to your treatment pressure when you breathe in, which many people find makes exhaling feel more natural.
- SmartStart: Starts therapy automatically when you breathe into the mask, so you do not have to press the button.
- SmartStop: Stops therapy automatically a few seconds after you take your mask off.
- Waterless humidity level (HumidX choice): Moisture is set by which insert you use, not by a dial: no insert gives no added moisture, the blue HumidX is the starting point, and the gray HumidX Plus adds more for very dry air.
- Airplane mode (Bluetooth off): Turns off the machine's Bluetooth radio for use on an aircraft. You then run the machine with the Start/Stop button only.
Supplies that can help
A padded bag that protects the machine, mask, tubing and power supply in transit.
A cord or converter that runs a CPAP from a 12 V or 24 V DC source, such as a car outlet, RV or deep cycle …
The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.
Plain, mild dish soap is the cleaning agent most CPAP makers and the FDA point to for masks, tubing and humidifier chambers.
