Transcend 3 miniCPAP
How to set up the Transcend 3 miniCPAP
From the box to your first night. Keep the user guide that came with your machine nearby: if anything here differs from it, follow the guide.
Unpack and check the parts
Take everything out of the travel bag. The Transcend 3 comes with an air supply tube, the PSA2 multi-plug power supply with a changeable plug pack, a USB cable and a quick guide.
Batteries, the Mobile Power Adapter, the Bluetooth module and the mask are sold separately. Report anything missing to your supplier.
Fit the right plug to the power supply
If the plug on the power supply is not the one your outlet needs, press the button on the plug, turn it counterclockwise and pull it off. Line up the tabs of the new plug, push it in and turn it clockwise until it clicks.
Make sure the plug is fully locked before you put it in the wall.
Connect the tube and mask
Push the air supply tube onto the air outlet of the Transcend 3, then connect your mask to the other end. Use the tube supplied or another tube that meets ISO 5367 or ISO 80601-2-74.
Plug in the power
Put the machine on a firm, flat surface, not in the bed. Push the power supply's barrel plug into the jack on the back, then plug the supply into the wall.
The lights run a short flash sequence and then go off. That means the machine has power and is in Standby.
Check your comfort settings before the first night
There is no screen, so ramp time, ramp start pressure and EZEX are set in the Transcend desktop software over USB, or in Transcend's app with the Bluetooth dongle. Your provider sets the pressure and decides which comfort settings you are allowed to change.
If you are not sure what is set, ask your provider to confirm it before you travel.
Put your mask on and start therapy
Fit your mask firmly first, then press the Power button. Air starts and, if ramp is set up, the pressure climbs slowly to your prescribed level. The lights stay off during therapy.
Press the Ramp button later in the night if you want ramp to start over. Hold it down if you want to get to full pressure faster.
Stop therapy and dry the machine
Press Power to stop and return to Standby. Somnetics recommends Drying Mode after every session: hold the Ramp button and press Power at the same time. The blower runs at low speed for 30 minutes and then goes back to Standby. It does not give you therapy pressure, so do not sleep with it.
Charge a battery if you plan to use one
Fully charge a P4, P8 or P10 battery before its first use, with the CPAP not connected. Connect the power supply to the battery and the battery to the wall. A P4 takes up to 5 hours, a P8 up to 8 hours and a P10 up to 7 hours.
After setup: settings worth knowing
- Ramp restart: Drops the pressure back to the ramp start pressure and climbs again over the ramp time, so you can fall back asleep at a lower pressure.
- Ramp start pressure: Sets the pressure that ramp begins at, up to 1 cm H2O below your therapy pressure.
- Ramp time: Sets how long it takes to reach your prescribed pressure, 5 to 45 minutes, or Off.
- EZEX pressure relief: Lowers the pressure while you breathe out. Settings are Off, 1, 2 or 3, with 3 giving the most relief.
- Drying Mode: Runs the blower at low speed for 30 minutes without therapy pressure to dry the inside of the machine and tube.
Supplies that can help
The air inlet filter keeps dust and lint out of the machine and your airway; it is a cheap part that needs regular replacement.
The plain hose between the machine and the mask; it wears out and should be replaced on a regular schedule.
A heat and moisture exchanger (HME) that captures warmth and moisture from your breath and returns it on the next breath, used mostly with travel CPAPs …
A battery pack that runs a CPAP machine without mains power, for camping, power outages or long flights.
A cord or converter that runs a CPAP from a 12 V or 24 V DC source, such as a car outlet, RV or deep cycle …
A padded bag that protects the machine, mask, tubing and power supply in transit.
