Getting used to CPAP
How Long Does It Take to Get Used to CPAP?
Many people adjust to CPAP in about two weeks, though some take longer and some feel settled within days. The early weeks matter: how you use CPAP in the first week tends to predict long term use. If it is not getting easier after about a week, call your provider for help rather than waiting it out.
Signs

Fixes to try, easiest first
Use CPAP every night
Consistency builds the habit. The pattern of use is often set within the first week.
Practice during the day
Wear the mask while awake and relaxed to get used to it.
Use comfort features
Ramp, exhale relief and humidity settings can make the air easier to tolerate.
Fix problems as they come
Look up specific problems such as dry mouth or leaks and solve them early.
Ask about behavioral help with your clinician
The Sleep Foundation notes cognitive behavioral therapy can help some people use CPAP more. Ask your doctor about it, especially if you have insomnia or anxiety about the mask.
Call your provider after a week if it is not easier with your clinician
Your provider can change your mask, check your data and help with settings.
Contact your provider or sleep doctor if CPAP is not getting easier after about a week, or if you are using it fewer than 4 hours most nights. Call sooner for side effects such as bloating, ear pain, nosebleeds or skin sores.
