Nasal moisturizer gel
A water-based or saline gel applied inside or around the nostrils to soothe dryness and soreness from CPAP airflow.
Why it helps
Airflow through a nasal or pillows mask can dry the skin inside the nostrils and cause soreness or small nosebleeds. A thin layer of a water-based gel at bedtime can ease that. It complements humidification rather than replacing it.
How to choose
Choose a water-based or saline gel labeled for nasal use. Apply sparingly so it does not get onto the mask cushion, since oily residue can make silicone slippery and break it down faster. Check your mask's user guide if it lists products to avoid near the cushion.
If you use supplemental oxygen with your CPAP, ask your oxygen supplier which nasal products are allowed. Persistent nosebleeds or sores need a clinician's review.
Frequently asked questions
What can I put in my nose for CPAP dryness?
A saline spray or a water-based nasal gel are common choices, along with a higher humidifier setting or heated tubing. Keep products off the mask cushion.
Can I use petroleum jelly with my CPAP mask?
Oily products can make silicone cushions slippery and wear them out faster. Use a water-based gel instead, and if you use oxygen, ask your oxygen supplier first.
